Donations are always welcomed with open arms at Our Community Place as we find ourselves constantly in need of food, clothing, and funds, not to mention a few other things we dare put on our wishlist. We just started up a vehicle donation program you may want to check out. We also rely on generous contributions of time from members of the community and offer many ways to help out.
Funds
Money donations can be made at any time, in-person or through the mails. We also have a PayPal option that might make things more convenient for you. To make your donation by check, please make it payable to “Our Community Place” and send it to:
Our Community Place
17 E. Johnson Street
Harrisonburg, VA 22802
You can also stop by and drop it off, cash or check. An OCP donation jar can also be found on the counter at The Little Grill Collective across the street at 621 North Main Street.
To use PayPal, which accepts payment through credit cards, please click here.
OCP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our non-profit status can be verified through GuideStar. All donations can be itemized on your tax return.
Food

We accept food all year long for our day-to-day needs, both meals we prepare and food we give away, and for special meals such as the ones we prepare at holidays. The Monday Soup Kitchen is a particular need. Bread and pastry donations we receive in abundance through a weekly: pick-up at Costco, delivery made through the Catholic church, and distribution through the Salvation Army. Canned and other processed food are always helpful (no such food dated before 2008, please). During the growing season fresh produce is a special treat for our community, and much appreciated. We’ve often received tomatoes, squash, and corn in the past, as well as a variety of other farm products.
Vehicles
If you’d like to donate a vehicle to OCP, please e-mail us first on ourcommunityplace@gmail.com and describe the vehicle as best you can including: year, make and model, engine, type of transmission, condition, etc. It should be a functioning vehicle capable of being driven on the roads legally. If it needs mechanical work, or minor things in order to pass inspection, please describe the issues along with whatever it is your mechanic says about the needed repairs.
Once you have described the vehicle to us, we can decide whether . .
- we’d like to use it here at OCP–perhaps for the Our Community Works program; or
- we should hold it on display here for a community member to claim; or
- we think it best for you to donate it through the v-Dac auction program.
If we decide to accept the donation for our own use, or that of OCW, we’ll work the transfer out with you at that point (it would be a charitable donation you can take off your taxes). If we decide to put it out for adoption by someone in the community, we’d prefer you hold the title until the new owner is identified then sign it over directly. If we decide that it’s not a vehicle we can put to use ourselves, or it wouldn’t be attractive to a community member, then we’ll ask you either to call 877/999-8322 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 877/999-8322 end_of_the_skype_highlighting or click the image below:
It’s a third-party organization dedicated to taking vehicle donations for any charity that should save us a bunch of administrative effort (and the trouble of arranging auctions). Just make sure you tell them you want to charitable proceeds to go to Our Community Place.
