Scenic Rides

The 19th Annual Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Festival–Saturday, July 31st, 2010–offers a variety of scenic rides for both the beginner and the more experienced rider for going on twenty years. The rides range from a 12-mile family-friendly “Stroll” through downtown Harrisonburg to a 100-mile “Century Ride” over the rolling roads of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. (A “metric century” can be fashioned if desired.) The rides start and finish at Our Community Place at 17 E. Johnson Street in Harrisonburg, Virginia; right where it crosses N. Main. Registration fee is $25 per rider, if you register by July 17th–$30 through to the day of the event.  Children under twelve ride for free. All proceeds support Our Community Place, a non-profit organization.

Maps and Cue Sheets

Start Times

Participants should arrive an hour before their scheduled rides.  Longer rides start early to help us all avoid the heat of the day:

  • the “Century” ride starts at 7:00am (that’s the 100 mile run);
  • the “Half Century” ride starts at 7:30am (50 miles);
  • the “Morning Loop” ride starts at 8:00am (25 miles);
  • the “Stroll” ride starts at 9:00am (12 miles).

A “metric century” can be fashioned from the longer ride.  Please see organizers the day of the event.

Lodging

Attendees at OCP events looking for lodging are strongly urged to consider the charms of two bed and breakfast-type places:  the Joshua Wilton House and Stonewall Jackson Inn.
Joshua Wilton House
They’ve both been very good to us in the past, they offer exceptional accomodations, and they really give a taste of things in the valley.  Another nice place to stay that’s not too expensive is the Village Inn at 4979 S. Valley Pike.  Call them on 540.434.7355  (their website seems to have information only on their food services).

Otherwise, the area sports a number of major chain hotels, such as:

A quick Google search will yield more options.
